Uzbekistan Airways has announced the largest aircraft purchase in its history, signing a deal to acquire up to 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The agreement includes a firm order for 14 787-9 jets and options for eight more, as the flag carrier looks to modernize its widebody fleet and expand its global reach.

The deal was commemorated during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with Republic of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev joining senior leaders from Boeing and Uzbekistan Airways. Alongside the order, Boeing and the Uzbekistan Ministry of Transport signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to explore further development of the country’s aviation sector.

“The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family has proven to be the cornerstone of our long-haul operations,” said Shukhrat Khudaikulov, Chairman of Uzbekistan Airways. “With this new contract, we are further strengthening both our airline’s and our nation’s position as a leading aviation hub in Central Asia, while providing our passengers with greater global connectivity. This step reaffirms our ambitions and strategic commitment to sustainable growth.”

As the first 787 operator in Central Asia, Uzbekistan Airways currently flies the 787-8 on routes connecting Europe, Asia, and the United States, including a direct service to New York. The larger 787-9 model, offering increased capacity and range, will allow the airline to expand to additional long-haul destinations in the U.S. and beyond.

Boeing said the deal will support nearly 35,000 jobs across the United States. Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, praised the nearly 30-year partnership between the two companies. “With its fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, the 787 Dreamliner will help Uzbekistan Airways expand into new markets, connecting more travelers to their rich culture,” he said.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner family is known for its advanced aerodynamics, composite materials, and innovative systems, which help reduce fuel use by 25% compared to the airplanes it replaces. The aircraft’s efficiency, versatility and passenger comfort continue to make it a preferred choice for carriers looking to expand their long-haul operations.

Boeing, a leading global aerospace company and top U.S. exporter, provides commercial airplanes, defense systems, and space technology to customers in more than 150 countries. The company emphasizes safety, quality, and integrity across its operations, supporting innovation and economic development both in the U.S. and globally.
