Pretending everything is fine, saying you’re on your way and feigning memory loss have been named the most popular white lies according to a new study, with over half (56%) of Brits admitting to regularly telling a fib to their family or friends.

The new study from Altos Tequila surveyed 2,000 Brits to shine a spotlight on the everyday cheeky lies we tell day in, day out.  The research cited 18-24-year-olds as the worst offenders, with three quarters (72%) telling up to three fibs a day, compared with over 65’s who tell less than one a day on average.

The top 10 little white lies told by the UK:

1.       Everything is fine (66%)

2.     I’m on my way (51%)

3.     I don’t remember (44%)

4.     I am listening to you (35%)

5.     My phone battery is dying (34%)

6.     I have a headache (33%)

7.      I already have plans (31%)

8.     It’s delicious (29%)

9.     It wasn’t very expensive (28%)

10.   I love your outfit (25%)

Despite being a nation of hosts, many Brits sneakily purchase pre-made food to pass off as their own, and half (48%) of 18-34-year-olds would prefer to purchase pre-made cocktails and pretend they were made from scratch.

Since lockdown, the UK has become cocktail aficionados, regularly making our own at home to enjoy amongst friends.

While the Margarita was voted one of the nation’s favorite cocktails to enjoy, one in four of us can’t be bothered to mix cocktails ourselves, with the biggest barriers being not having the right ingredients (60%), not having the right spirits (51%), and believing it’s easier to buy pre-mixed versions instead.

The Pina Colada, Mojito and Singapore Sling topped the list of cocktails in the too-hard basket, with the Bellini voted the easiest to make with just two ingredients.

To celebrate this National Margarita Day, Altos Tequila has launched a ready-to-serve solution for when you fancy a bar-quality margarita, but you can’t be bothered to make it.

Raising the (at-home) bar, the new Altos Lime Margarita ready-to-serve is bar quality and made from premium ingredients. Combining Altos Plata tequila with triple sec, natural lime flavoring and agave syrup, creating a perfectly balanced and sophisticated taste. The blend heroes the award-winning Altos Plata tequila – a smooth tequila with a clean and complex flavor profile, which has been voted the best tequila for Margaritas for four years by a panel of top global bartenders at Drinks International.

Easy to make, and fully customizable, simply pour the Altos Lime Margarita ready-to-serve over ice or unleash your cocktail creativity by adding a salted rim to your glass or chilies for a crowd-pleasing spicy marg – it’s never been easier to make a high-quality margarita!

Josh McCarthy, Brand Director at Pernod Ricard UK says, “Since the lockdowns we have seen a boom in at-home cocktail making, but as we have transitioned back into normal life, many don’t have the time or ingredients on hand to make their own cocktails regularly from scratch.”

“With our new Altos Lime Margarita ready-to-serve, Brits can enjoy quality cocktails at ease, in the comfort of their homes – perfect for those that have run out of limes or are pressed for time when elevating an evening in or a dinner party.”

Altos Lime Margarita ready-to-serve is available now in the UK in a 750ml glass bottle (RRP: £15, ABV: 14.9%) at Amazon, Tesco, Asda, and Go Puff, before rolling out to other grocers this spring. Altos Lime Margarita ready-to-serve offers five to six servings and is best enjoyed over ice. Once opened, keep refrigerated and consume within 15 days.
