Rüsselsheim.  Rugged, spacious, ultra-modern and highly efficient with electrified drivetrains – this is the new Opel Frontera. The all-new Opel SUV is available as a fully electric, locally emissions-free Frontera Electric with five seats for €28,990; the Frontera Hybrid with 48-volt technology is even available for €23,900 euros (all prices RRP including VAT in Germany). In addition, the Frontera will be available for five or seven occupants. For the hybrid version with seven seats in the GS trim, there is only a small surcharge of €800. This makes the Frontera the ideal shuttle vehicle for friends or family, making it an affordable SUV for everyone.

Full of character: Rugged exterior design with new Opel Blitz

The new Frontera already delights at first sight with its rugged interpretation of Opel’s bold and pure design philosophy. The upright front silhouette and the unique front proportions of the new Frontera combine a functional and spacious cabin volume with a very bold and tough, but modern expressive look.

The black Vizor with the new Opel “Blitz” emblem gives the front of the Frontera a unique identity and seamlessly integrates the Intelli-LED headlamps with automatic high beam. The Vizor is supported by a trapezoidal cooling opening in the lower third and emphasises the solid and robust stance of the car. The well-known Opel “wing signature” shines in a modern interpretation with three lighting blocks on the vertical axis. The side view reveals a distinctive C-pillar, which visually splits the spacious cabin. Elsewhere, the pronounced wheel arches and fenders plant the car firmly on the road while also giving the newcomer a solid and modern look.

Clever solutions for connectivity and comfort meet interior flexibility

The modern look and feel continues in the interior where clever design meets practicality. Wide horizontal decors on the instrument panel and doors visually widen the already airy cabin. Furthermore, the Opel typical fully digital Pure Panel cockpit with 10-inch driver information display and, if desired, equally large infotainment display is just as eye-catching as the elegant new steering wheel. For customers who prefer to use their own mobile device, the entry-level version comes with an innovative, practical smartphone station as standard instead of the central screen. In addition, Opel is once again making seating innovations affordable for a wide range of buyers in the new Frontera with the patented Intelli-Seat feature. And in accordance with Opel’s “Greenovation” approach, the optionally available Intelli-Seats are made from recycled and therefore sustainable material.

The fun and comfort factor of the newcomer is further increased by a string of smart solutions ranging from the wireless charger to a maximum of five USB-C ports available in the seven-seater variant. Larger devices that would normally not fit into the cabin properly, such as tablets, can be safely stored in the centre console thanks to a flexible strap that holds them in place. Smartphone pockets in the back rests of the front seats along with other open storage areas in the cabin can take daily carry-ons with rubber lining preventing rattling and sliding.

In addition, the new Frontera impresses with its flexible loading capacity. With the rear seats folded down, it offers up to around 1,600 litres of luggage space with additional versatility being provided by the 60:40 split of the rear bench. After arriving at its destination, the family-friendly Frontera can easily shoulder a roof tent thanks to a stationary roof load of up to 240 kilogrammes.

Always electrified: Frontera Electric of Frontera Hybrid with 48-volt technology

To ensure responsible driving pleasure, customers can choose between battery-electric and highly efficient hybrid drives with 48-volt technology. At a starting price of €23,900, the Frontera Hybrid has a 74 kW (100 hp) 1.2-litre petrol turbo engine developed specifically for hybrid use. This operates in combination with a 21 kW (28 hp) electric motor and an electrified six-speed dual clutch transmission, so that fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are significantly lower compared to a conventionally powered model. In addition, the Frontera Hybrid is also available in combination with a 100 kW (136 hp) 1.2 turbo engine for prices starting at €25,700.

Customers in Germany who want to travel locally emissions-free can order the battery-electric Frontera Electric with 83 kW (113 hp), 44 kWh (usable) battery and a range of up to 305 kilometres (according to WLTP2) for €28,990. As a “long-range” version, the new Frontera Electric will be able to travel up to around 400 kilometres (preliminary range according to WLTP2) without stopping to charge.

The Frontera’s equipment trims are equally clearly laid out for customers. The newcomer is available either as the Frontera Edition or as the Frontera GS. Even the entry-level version is extensively equipped with standard features such as 10-inch driver display, the smartphone station, OpelConnect with various telematics services and Intelli-LED headlights with high beam assist. The GS trim comes with the Pure Panel cockpit with systems such as the multimedia infotainment with 10-inch colour touchscreen and integrated navigation, front parking pilot and rear-view camera. Additional features include LED head and taillights as well as automatic climate control. The 17-inch light alloy wheels are also an eye-catcher on the GS. There are a total of six exterior colours to choose from. The roof can be chosen in the body colour or in contrasting black or white.

With its expressive new look, its clever and fun solutions along with an easy choice of fully electric or hybrid drivetrains, the new Opel Frontera once again shows that the German brand takes its electrification pledge seriously while simultaneously catering to a wide range of customers.
