Accor Reaches Major Milestone with 1,000 Mercure Hotels Worldwide
Mercure Hotels, a brand synonymous with discovery and exploration, has reached a historic milestone with the opening of its 1,000th address . After celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, the brand remains as popular as ever among hotel owners, with strong growth momentum around the world. Nearly 30 hotels have opened in China, bringing the number of Mercure properties in the region to more than 180. The brand also doubled its presence in Japan, with the recent opening of 11 hotels in the country.
The 1,000 hotel milestone was reached in 2024 with multiple openings including Mercure London Earls Court (UK), Mercure Chandigarh Tribune Chowk (India), Mercure Fukuoka Munakata Resort & Spa (Japan), Mercure Marival Emotions Resort (Mexico), Mercure Nantong Renmin Road (China), and Mercure Dubai Deira (UAE). Mercure is the brand with the strongest pipeline within the Accor portfolio, with over 200 additional properties scheduled to open by 2028.

Since its beginnings in the 1970s, Mercure has experienced remarkable growth. Acquired by Accor in 1975, the brand has grown rapidly, expanding its presence in Europe and then beyond its home continent. Key milestones in this expansion included the opening of its first hotel outside France in 1983, in Lisbon, and its expansion to the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia in 1994. The year 2024 is marked by the significant strengthening of the brand’s presence in China and Japan, which has contributed to the brand reaching the 1,000 address mark, spread across 68 countries around the world.

As it celebrates the milestone of 1,000 hotels, the brand remains more faithful than ever to its mission, which is to connect its guests directly with the authentic essence of its destinations. Recent addresses to join the Mercure portfolio include:
- Mercure London Earls Court (opening July 2024): This new Mercure hotel, which has 12 floors in a building shared with the ibis brand, offers impressive views of the London skyline. Its design is inspired by the famous Tardis, the space-time ship from the cult British series Doctor Who, a replica of which stands in front of Earl’s Court station, near the hotel. It has 282 rooms and a bar and restaurant, Barnaby’s, which combines great classics of British cuisine with flavors from around the world.
- Mercure Bangkok Surawong (opening May 2024): This 219-key hotel boasts panoramic views of Bangkok’s cityscape. Every corner of it is inspired by the character of its neighbourhood, once a major commercial district along the Chao Phraya River. The interior design uses reclaimed wood, modern steel and stone, creating an atmosphere rooted in the area’s rich heritage.
- Mercure Expansion in Japan (Openings April 2024): The brand has expanded significantly in Japan with 11 new openings this year, including Mercure Fukuoka Munakata Resort & Spa, Mercure Miyagi Zao Resort & Spa, Mercure Urabandai Resort & Spa, and Mercure Kyoto Miyazu Resort & Spa. Each of these properties skillfully blends local charm with modern amenities.
- Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre (opening April 2024): The world’s largest Mercure hotel, with 989 beautifully appointed guestrooms. Inspired by Singapore’s Chinatown and central business district, the property features six dining options and eco-friendly guestroom products.
- Mercure Tirana (opening March 2024): The first Mercure hotel in Albania showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Mediterranean. It features 64 rooms and a sky bar with panoramic views of Tirana’s picturesque rooftops.
- Mercure Dubai Deira (opening January 2024): Committed to the authenticity of Dubai culture, the 152-room Mercure Dubai Deira hotel features a rooftop infinity pool and several restaurants that serve local produce. Guests can experience the rich heritage and flavors of Dubai.
Mercure is set to significantly expand its portfolio, with over 200 properties under development. The brand will continue to enrich its diverse portfolio in the years to come, inviting travelers to explore new horizons.
