Sofitel Celebrates the Grand Reopening of Its Iconic Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Hotel
The rebirth of a completely renovated icon, marking the beginning of a new era of French luxury in the heart of Australia’s largest city
Located in Sydney, Australia, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth reopens its doors today after a complete renovation. With its 436 rooms and suites, the hotel has retained all the charm of its original architecture, and now offers state-of-the-art comfort and facilities. Nestled in the heart of Sydney’s business district, this 5-star hotel offers privileged access to several of the city’s iconic sites, such as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The rebirth of an icon
The renovation of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, led by architecture and interior design firm FK, pays homage to the hotel’s glamorous past while propelling it into the future. Opened in 1966, the building was designed in a minimalist post-war style, featuring the largest brick structure in the southern hemisphere.
Today, the hotel perfectly embodies the Sofitel spirit: in homage to the brand’s Cultural Link, its logo composed of two intertwined curves symbolizing the meeting of two cultures, the hotel reflects the spirit of Australia and its landscapes (with a palette of natural colors and locally sourced materials), all infused with an inimitable French zest.
Also nicknamed the Hotel des Arts, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth regularly hosts exhibitions thanks to its partnership with several cultural organizations such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Sydney Opera House and the Australian World Orchestra.
Luxury and privacy
All of the hotel’s rooms and suites feature premium amenities, including MySmart lighting to create the perfect ambiance, and the Sofitel MyBed™ experience, including a box spring, mattress, mattress topper, pillow menu and meticulous turndown service – all carefully developed to deliver unparalleled comfort and the sensation of being cradled in the clouds. The epitome of comfort that has made the brand famous around the world.
The Wentworth Suite, the hotel’s most exclusive accommodation which has previously hosted a number of VIPs including Princess Diana, will be unveiled at a later date. Other dignitaries, film stars and celebrities who have also passed through the doors of Sofitel Sydney Wentworth include astronaut Neil Armstrong, Audrey Hepburn, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – Duke of Edinburgh, to name a few.
A gastronomic experience that awakens the senses
The hotel’s transformation is based in part on its partnership with House Made Hospitality, a major hotel group in the region, which has designed an exceptional range of bars and restaurants:
- tilda , a sophisticated restaurant that invites you to discover the essence of Australia
- Delta Rue , a Vietnamese-French fusion restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere
- Bar tilda , a place that revives the timeless elegance of the hotel, where you can enjoy a cocktail inspired by the era while enjoying a jazz orchestra
- Wentworth Bar , a lively rooftop bar with a sublime terrace
