Leapmotor International Hosts First European Media Drive in Milan

The first European Media Drive is currently taking place in Milan for the C10 and T03 models of the Leapmotor brand, a leading Chinese company in the technology field which boasts the highest growth in the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sector. The event, held in the Italian design and innovation capital and at the enchanting Lake Maggiore, marks the official debut of Leapmotor International in Europe.

This is the first global partnership in the electric-vehicle sector between a major automaker and a Chinese OEM specialized in NEV. Specifically, the 51:49 joint venture led by Stellantis is aimed at further increasing Leapmotor sales in China, one of the largest automobile markets in the world, while taking advantage of Stellantis’ consolidated commercial presence on international markets to increase Leapmotor sales in other regions.

The origins of Leapmotor International
In October 2023, the two companies announced the investment of around 1.5 billion euros on Stellantis’ behalf into Leapmotor for the acquisition of around 21% of the shares of the Chinese company. The agreement also included the creation of Leapmotor International, the 51:49 joint-venture led by Stellantis, with exclusive rights for exports and sales, as well the manufacturer of Leapmotor products outside of “Greater China”. The shared goal at the foundations of the strategic partnership is an acceleration and increase in sales of Leapmotor’s hi-tech products at affordable prices around the world, making use of Stellantis’ global resources and commercial know-how. Moreover, Leapmotor International’s range of electric vehicles complements the current technology and portfolio of Stellantis’ 14 iconic brands and guarantees customers more economically accessible mobility solutions. With the ability to rely on Stellantis’ distribution channels, Leapmotor International is aiming to increase the number of sales points of Leapmotor vehicles to 350 by the end of 2024. Furthermore, one model a year is planned to be released over the next three years. The first European markets involved by the end of the year are Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxemburg, Malta, The Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK.; which all can rely on Stellantis extensive sales network and the support of dedicated Brand Managers. From Q4 2024, Leapmotor’s commercial operations will also be expanded to the Middle East & Africa (Israel and overseas French territories), Asia Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia), as well as South America (Brazil and Chile).

Stellantis roadmap to zero carbon emissions
Founded at the start of 2021, but with more than a century’s worth of tradition, Stellantis can rely on 14 iconic automobile brands and on two businesses in the field of mobility solutions. THE T03 MODEL

DESIGN

ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN AND CHASSIS
The T03 is equipped with an electric powertrain which was developed by Leapmotor entirely on its own. The heart of the system is a 37.3 kWh battery which offers 265 km of range in the WLTP Combined cycle and up to 395 km range in Urban Cycle. This system is managed by an Intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) which utilizes cloud technology to monitor the state of the battery in real-time and to guarantee that it always operates within an optimal temperature range. Specifically, the electric motor develops a maximum power of 70 kW (95 CV) and a maximum torque of 158 Nm, which makes it incredibly efficient for everyday driving. Thanks to the lightness of the design, the integrated controller reduces the weight of the system by 28.8%, while increasing the use of space by 51.9%. Engine quietness is yet another point of pride for the vehicle, with noise levels remaining low at 76 dB. The model offers three driving modes, each of which has been designed to adapt to various driving conditions and driver preferences. More specifically, ECO mode optimizes regenerative braking and provides smoother power response, which is ideal for maximizing efficiency. SPORTS mode offers faster power response, with moderate regenerative braking. Lastly, STANDARD mode offers a balance between the two, with its weak regenerative braking allowing the vehicle to move slowly after the accelerator is released. The steering system is just as versatile and also includes three distinct modes: COMFORT mode increases steering assistance, making the drive lighter and more comfortable; SPORTS mode reduces steering power, offering more precise and dynamic control; and finally, STANDARD mode is a compromise between the previous two and offers a balanced steering experience. The vehicle also features a front MacPherson suspension and a rear roll and torsion bar in one combined system. This setup ensures balanced weight between the axles (close to the ideal ratio of 1:1) and provides stable and comfortable driving both in urban use and on longer journeys. The model also sports a highly efficient braking system which includes an electric parking brake and front and rear ventilated braking discs to improve heat dissipation and reduce thermal attenuation, leading to enhanced durability. Additionally, the regenerative braking system converts kinetic electrical energy during braking and stores it in the battery for later use, which leads to lower maintenance costs and improved overall energy efficiency. Finally, the T03 is compatible with Type 2 and CCS2 charging connectors and includes an onboard charger of 6.6 kW and a maximum DC charging power of 48 kW. The home charging time from 30% to 80% is around 3,5 hours, while utilizing a DC charging station for the same time requires just 36 minutes.
 

SAFETY
The T03 features an incredibly robust body-cage structure built to provide the greatest protection to its occupants. The vehicle body has been continuously laser brazed along all the roof lines in accordance with the highest European safety standards. The one-piece, all-aluminum alloy anti-collision beam is a unique element which offers a protection ratio of more than 60%. This structure is accompanied by high-strength steel (60% of the body) and a design created to effectively absorb energy from potential collisions. Moreover, the T03 inherits smart technology from Leapmotor, which has designed an advanced hardware platform with 3 cameras, 2-millimeter wave radars, and 3 ultrasonic radars. This system allows for the implementation of up to 10 ADAS functions, offering L2-level intelligent driving. Thanks to remote OTA upgrades, the model keeps its driving-assistance capabilities up to date, which ensures constant improvement. The ADAS system features advanced functionalities like Lane Departure Warning (LDW), which warns the driver if he or she leaves the lane, and Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA), which provides light steering correction. The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) automatically adjusts speed based on the preceding vehicle, while the Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and the Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB) intervene if there is any imminent danger. The system also includes intelligent speed assistance, which recognizes speed-limit signs and displays them on the instrument cluster. Furthermore, the model is equipped with other advanced functions like driver drowsiness warning, which uses facial recognition cameras to monitor driver fatigue, and Blind Spot Detection (BSD), which alerts drivers of vehicles in their blind spots. Lastly, the vehicle also includes Door Opening Warning (DOW), which warns the driver and passengers of approaching traffic when a door is about to be opened, preventing potential accidents.
 

INFOTAINMENT AND CONNECTIVITY
The T03 model is equipped with a state-of-the-art infotainment system which features ease of use, advanced connectivity, and next-generation technologies. The heart of the system can be found in the 8-inch instrument display and 10.1-inch central display, which offer an intuitive visual interface for all of the main vehicle functions. One of this system’s strengths is its Over-the-Air (OTA) upgrades, which eliminate the need to visit an assistance center to update the software. The vehicle includes 4G connectivity, which monitors and constantly improves the system’s functionalities. Its cloud services allow one to remotely understand the vehicle’s condition and provide services such as real-time diagnostics and communications. The model also features the Intelligent Voice Interaction System which, thanks to a high-quality microphone, accurately recognizes commands and allows one to manage functions like navigation, communication, and the control of multimedia systems. Enabled both via vocal commands and a steering wheel button, the voice device guarantees safer and more convenient driving. Additionally, the T03’s infotainment system offers a complete range of functionalities, including air-conditioning control, lighting, and the management of calls and contacts. It is possible to activate or deactivate the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, adjust screen brightness, control the music, and manage the navigation systems through vocal or manual commands. Lastly, thanks to the Leapmotor app, T03 owners can remotely control many of the vehicle’s functions, including door lock/unlock, air conditioning control, and battery preheating. Moreover, in the absence of connectivity, it is possible to use the Bluetooth key to lock or unlock the vehicle.

The C10 is a large D-SUV with plenty of interior space and a solid and robust exterior design. COMFORT
With 435 liters of trunk capacity in normal conditions, the vehicle can host up to seven 20-inch suitcases. When the rear seats are down, the trunk capacity increases up to 1,410 liters, which is enough to accommodate 15 suitcases of the same size. The trunk can reach a maximum depth of 1,820 mm and a width of 1,110 mm, offering the versatility to satisfy any transport need. Not to mention that it is possible to fold down two or all the rear seats to create even more space. Plus, with the front and rear seats completely folded down, the C10 can turn into a 1.8-meter-long and 1.2-meter-wide double bed. Moreover, the vehicle includes 26 storage spaces: 10 in the first row, 10 in the second row, and 6 in the trunk, ensuring that there is a specific space for any need. The interiors are made in high-quality and eco-friendly materials to offer a premium and comfortable riding experience. The seats, upholstered in silicon certified by OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, are especially fit for families with children thanks to the use of eco-compatible materials and an air-quality management system which ensures a healthy environment inside the car. The C10 D-SUV is also equipped with 3D ergonomic seats which have been made with the latest bio-based products. These seats use a combination of 7 layers of different hardness and low-lag foam to optimally distribute body pressure. The attention to detail also extends to the vehicle’s soundproofing, which can be compared to that of luxury cars. Thanks to the precise acoustic optimization, which reduces rolling and aerodynamic sound, the C10 offers one of the best sound experiences on the market. Meanwhile, aerodynamic features (e.g., the bottom guard, the flat battery pack, and the front and rear wheel spoilers) contribute to reducing air resistance and outside noise. Even the windscreen has been designed to dampen noise. Not to mention that the ultra-quiet motor of the C10 keeps overall noise levels to ≤76 dB(A), which is 3-5 dB(A) lower than the competitors. The car windows gradually slow down at the upper and lower end points while maintaining a uniform speed during the intermediate process, further reducing the noises, providing a more comfortable and premium experience. Lastly, the C10 features two smart systems for locking and unlocking the vehicle. Indeed, it is possible to automatically unlock the car by moving closer or farther from it with a compatible mobile phone thanks to Bluetooth technology. Alternatively, the model offers an NFC digital key that unlocks the car when it is held close to the reader near the rearview mirror.
 

SMART ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN
The C10 is designed to meet and exceed the highest efficiency and performance standards thanks to its advanced electric powertrain solutions. Equipped with a 160-kW motor (218 hp) and 320 Nm of torque, the vehicle offers outstanding acceleration stats, with the torque distribution guaranteeing high performance both at medium and high speeds, making it perfect for dynamic overtaking and handling. One of the key elements of the C10’s powertrain is the energy recovery system, which includes both regenerative braking and the “freewheeling” function. The vehicle offers three driving modes to deal with various road conditions and driver preferences. Battery thermal temperature management ensures excellent performance with a system that intelligently manages the temperature of the battery pack, maintaining efficiency both in the charge and discharge phases. It should be pointed out that the C10 SUV has been developed using Cell-to-Chassis technology, which integrates the battery cells into the structure of the vehicle. This approach not only improves the battery layout, but also saves on space, increasing the torsional rigidity of the chassis to 42,500 NM/degree. This leads to superior safety and better handling, in addition to offering more interior space thanks to the vertical optimization of the battery area. The overall performance of the C10 is supported by a high-performance electric drive unit which leads to greater efficiency and range. The unit has been designed to last and has an expected lifespan of more than 600,000 kilometers. In particular, the C10’s battery thermal temperature system utilizes advanced heat and battery cooling technology during charge and discharge events. The intelligent control algorithm allows for the independent management of the temperature inside the cabin, improving the efficiency of the system and guaranteeing a comfortable environment for the passengers. Additionally, the system offers artificial-intelligence based diagnostics, monitoring the health status of the electric system in real-time and supplying early warnings in the case of malfunctions, which leads to an improvement in the overall reliability of the vehicle. Furthermore, thanks to its artificial intelligence, the C10 can learn the user’s driving habits and adapt over time, constantly improving the software strategies to optimize the vehicle’s performance. The system offers significant redundancy, ensuring that it is possible to maintain a high level of energy efficiency and power recovery in the case of failure. Lastly, as far as charging is concerned, the C10 is equipped with an 6,6 kW AC charger, which allows one to go from 30% to 80% battery capacity in around 6,1hours; meanwhile, for a faster charge, the DC system allows one to achieve the same result in just 30 minutes. The 69.9-kWh battery pack guarantees 420 km of WLTP range, making the C10 fit for long journeys and eco-friendly sustainability.

INFOTAINMENT AND CONNECTIVITY
The LEAPMOTOR C10’s infotainment and connectivity system has been designed to offer an advanced and immersive experience, improving vehicle use and making each journey more enjoyable and intuitive. The C10 integrates multifunction steering wheel controls, a 10.25-inch instrument panel with 1920×720 of resolution and a 14.6-inch, high-definition central display with 2560×1440 of resolution. The screens are laminated to reduce glare and improve visual quality in daylight, and offer a smartphone-like experience with their completely touchscreen interface. Moreover, the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system can be remotely controlled via smartphone and includes a series of customizable options, ensuring outstanding climate comfort for every passenger. The control system allows one to easily adjust the direction of the wind and intensity of the flow via simple and intuitive commands. One of the C10’s strengths is its ability to be updated via OTA (Over-The-Air) upgrades, which allows for the installation of new functionalities and software updates over time and ensures that the vehicle always stays up to date. The updates can regard ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) functionalities, the infotainment system, navigation, or cybersecurity measures. Even the electronic control unit can be optimized to enhance motor, transmission, and battery management performance. The C10 also includes an amazing audio system which includes an entirely self-developed amplifier and 12 speakers designed to support 7.1 surround sound. With 840 W of power output, the audio system features advanced personalized tuning thanks to an equalizer which allows the user to create their own favorite sound effects via four audio modes: Enjoy, Surround, Theater, and Dynamic. Additionally, the C10’s intelligent ambient light system synchronizes with music, creating an immersive visual and acoustic experience. As far as mobile device connectivity is concerned, the D-SUV offers up to five charging locations throughout the vehicle: two in the front row (USB Type-A and Type-C) and two in the rear area (USB  Type-A and Type-C), in addition to a wireless 15W-charging pad. Meanwhile, the model also features highly reactive intelligent voice interaction and the ability to detect the source of the voice in order to respond exclusively to the driver or passengers. The system offers natural interaction, responding to a wide range of voice commands, including those for navigation, climate, music, and communications control. Lastly, the C10 is equipped with a mobile app which allows one to remotely control numerous vehicle functions. These include battery preheating to optimize charging in cold climates; remote air conditioning control to warm or cool the car before getting in; monitoring the vehicle status (energy level, range, mileage, and vehicle position); and the possibility to lock or unlock the vehicle via Bluetooth, even without mobile connectivity.
 

SAFETY
Safety comes first on the C10, and it includes a complete system of advanced functions to guarantee the greatest protection both for the driver and passengers. The vehicle was designed to satisfy the highest standards in terms of safety, combining advanced technologies with a robust structural design. Moreover, the C10 was designed to achieve the best results of the new car impact program test thanks to the integration of advanced systems both for active and passive safety. This expected result is the outcome of careful engineering and rigorous safety tests, which make sure the vehicle meets and exceeds the most stringent European standards. One of the C10’s main features is its advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), which includes 17 driver-assistance functions like advanced emergency braking, lane keeping, blind spot detection, and adaptive cruise control. The vehicle is also equipped with a high-resistance structure which has been designed to effectively absorb and disperse energy in the case of collisions. The materials used in the construction of the chassis and body were chosen to offer the greatest protection without compromising on performance or vehicle efficiency. As regards passive safety, the C10 is equipped with a complete airbag system, which includes front and side airbag a safety air curtain and a far-side airbag. The electronic stability program (ESP) is another key feature, as it helps maintain vehicle control during adverse driving conditions (e.g., slippery surfaces or emergency maneuvers). This system works in synergy with the ABS and traction control to guarantee safe and stable driving. Obviously, the vehicle could not go without a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which alerts the driver in the case of abnormal changes in pressure, preventing accidents caused by deflated or damaged tires. And to further improve safety, the vehicle features high-brightness LED headlights which ensure outstanding visibility in every lighting condition. The front and rear parking sensors, together with 360-degree camera, ease handling in tight spaces, reducing the risk of low-speed collisions.
 

LINEUP
The C10 is launching with a clear and simple lineup which includes two well-defined configurations: Style and Design. This strategy has been designed to simplify the customer’s selection process, offering both versions in a fully loaded level. From an aesthetic point of view, the model is available in five colors— Canopy Grey, Pearly White, Tundra Grey, Glazed Green, and Metallic Black—each of which provides the vehicle with a modern and elegant look. Inside, two interior colors are available which stand out for their sophisticated style: Criollo Brown and Midnight Aurora. As far as the wheels are concerned, the D-SUV comes in two different designs: in the Style trim, the vehicle features 18” alloy wheels with a five-spoke design to guarantee lightness and efficiency, while the Design version includes 20” alloy wheels which give the vehicle a sporty look and greater dynamism. More specifically, the Style trim offers a full range of standard contents, including electrically adjustable front seats (4-way for the passenger and 6-way for the driver), an automatic dual-zone, air-conditioning system, and automatic LED headlights and taillights. The vehicle also comes with heated exterior mirrors, and the steering wheel is upholstered in synthetic leather to provide a feeling of luxury. One of the trim’s most distinctive features is the panoramic sunroof, which includes an electric sunshade, allowing the passengers to enjoy natural lighting inside the vehicle. Moreover, the vehicle is equipped with rear parking sensors and a 360-degree panoramic camera, making parking easier and safer in tight spaces. A 10.25-inch instrument display also comes standard, as does a 14.6-inch HD central display which includes an integrated navigation system. The L2 ADAS driver-assistance system, with its 12 high-precision sensors, offers 17 advanced functions to ensure the greatest amount of safety during the drive. Additionally, the vehicle is compatible with wireless charging for smartphones and features a high-quality, 12-speaker audio system. Lastly, the system can receive OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, which allows the vehicle software to always stay up to date. Meanwhile, the Design trim adds comfort and luxury features to provide an even better driving experience, including an electric tailgate, rear privacy glass, and a heated steering wheel. The seats are upholstered in silicone leather, a material which was chosen for its durability and resistance, and are equipped with ventilated and heated seats up front, enhancing comfort in every type of weather condition. Moreover, the C10 Design offers an ambient lighting system which allows one to personalize the atmosphere within the vehicle.
