IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital Revamp Maroochydore Project with New Crowne Plaza Vision

Crowne Plaza Maroochydore to Anchor Major Sunshine Coast Development

Maroochydore is set to welcome a new landmark with IHG Hotels & Resorts and Felix Capital confirming plans for Crowne Plaza Maroochydore, a 180-room hotel designed to meet the region’s growing demand for high-quality conference and event facilities.

Located on Ocean Street in the Sunshine Coast’s commercial heart, the property will feature more than 770 square metres of flexible meeting space, including a 600sqm ballroom, as well as a 30-metre pool and spa, wellness retreat, gym, sauna, and two levels of secure basement parking. Dining options will include a 210-seat all-day restaurant, a 160-seat signature venue, a pool bar and lounge, and a lobby bar – creating a destination for corporate events, weddings, family breaks, and local gatherings.

The project has evolved from an earlier voco Maroochydore concept, with the revised plan focused on positioning the hotel as a leading conference and events hub. “Through discussion and feedback, it became clear that there was real value in delivering a hotel that puts conferences and events at its core as well as delivering an exceptional guest experience,” said Matt Tripolone, IHG Hotels & Resorts Managing Director for Australasia & Pacific.

Felix Capital Director Michael Maroun said securing additional land allowed the partners to “think bigger” and create a space that meets the Sunshine Coast’s needs for large-scale conferencing and destination events.

Local and state government forecasts suggest the region will require more than 2,400 extra hotel rooms – around 10 new hotels – by 2032 to support economic growth. The Crowne Plaza Maroochydore precinct aims to contribute to that target while boosting tourism and business travel year-round.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with the opening targeted for 2028. It will be the second collaboration between IHG and Felix Capital, following the signing of Holiday Inn & Suites Caloundra in 2024, due to open in 2030.
