Rolls-Royce Unveils Bespoke Collection Honouring Chinese Mural Art

Rolls-Royce has revealed a trio of bespoke motor cars inspired by the ancient mural art of the Dunhuang Mogao Caves in China.

The collection, commissioned through the brand’s invitation-only Private Office in Shanghai, features a Phantom Extended, Black Badge Cullinan, and Black Badge Spectre – each adorned with handcrafted elements reflecting over a millennium of Chinese artistic heritage.

Each vehicle in the Chinese Mural Art Bespoke series showcases exclusive exterior colours developed specifically for Private Office Shanghai clients, drawing on Chinese landscapes, art, and cultural symbolism.

The central theme across all three cars is the Silken Spirit motif, a design by Bespoke Designer Shuai Feng, inspired by the Spirit of Ecstasy and the fluidity of imperial silk.

Leading the trio, the Phantom Extended is finished in Ningye Purple and English White, its colourway echoing Tang Dynasty poetry and twilight skies over the Great Wall.

Inside, a meticulously hand-painted Gallery artwork on black leather reinterprets ancient mural techniques using sable brush strokes in the style of Chinese block printing. The cabin features a Starlight Headliner with 1,344 fibre-optic stars and 192 shooting stars, bespoke wood panelling, and finely embroidered celestial motifs.

The Black Badge Cullinan Series II is painted in Danqian Pink, extending to its 23-inch forged wheels. The interior blends Blushing Pink and Navy leathers, enhanced with over 100,000 perforations emulating clouds above Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood home. A glowing Starlight Headliner continues the Silken Spirit theme in abstract illuminated form.

Completing the collection, the Black Badge Spectre presents a bold Aero two-tone design in Qingshan Blue and Diamond Black.

Interior highlights include a dramatic contrast of Turchese and Black leathers, bespoke illuminated treadplates, and Starlight features in the doors and ceiling. The grille is lit in Turchese, adding to the vehicle’s vivid character.

These three commissions represent Rolls-Royce’s continued creative dialogue with China, weaving ancient cultural themes into modern expressions of luxury.

According to Bespoke Artist Chloe Dowsett, the Gallery artwork in Phantom Extended reimagines traditional techniques “to create the illusion of carved block printing” using layered brushwork on unpainted leather.

Rolls-Royce says the collection pays tribute to the legacy of the Silk Road and reflects the brand’s commitment to honouring global cultures through bespoke craftsmanship. All three cars are available exclusively through the Rolls-Royce Private Office in Shanghai.
